Led by Christine Kirubi (the87press) and New Curators fellows, this workshop will begin with a guided walkthrough of akâmi-. Participants will then have a chance to perform experimental readings of selected poems that inform and expand upon the dialogues surrounding Duane Linklater’s and Tanya Lukin Linklater’s practices and the larger landscape of creative literature, as well as over Kirubi’s own research background in Black and trans histories. Time will be allocated for writers to compose their own writings that respond to the exhibition, the workshop’s dialogues, or their interests and share them with others.
This workshop encourages the participation of emerging writers, authors and poets who seek to engage with Indigenous literary and artistic cosmologies, while situating their practices and interests in intimate proximity with the featured artists and fellow writers.
